Information for Applicants

Thank you for your interest in the fellowship program in the Division of Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluative Sciences Research at Weill Cornell Medical College. The program is open to physicians who have completed an accredited residency-training program in any clinical area. The program is open to United States Citizens and non-citizen nationals of the United States. Applicants should be committed to pursuing a research career. We encourage physicians from a broad spectrum of cultural backgrounds to apply.

Our fellows have an outstanding track record, 70% have appointments in academic centers, and 20% work in applied settings (industry or public health), and 9% are in private practice. The total funding on grants in which they are either principal investigators or co-principal investigators is $99.2 million. This program has a special interest in training physician-investigators, especially minority investigators, who go on to successful peer-review funded research. Of our 50 past and current fellows, 30% are African-American or Latino and 85% are currently in academic positions.

This two-year fellowship program, sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, is directed by Mary E. Charlson, M.D., and co-directed by Carol A. Mancuso, M.D., and Carla Boutin-Foster, M.D. It is open to physicians from any field who have completed their residencies and who are interested in an academic career in health services research, clinical epidemiology, or health policy. It is designed to give physicians the skills necessary to conduct methodologically rigorous health services research that will enable them to develop and implement solutions to pressing health care problems.

Fellows will have access to faculty with a broad range of expertise including clinical epidemiology, health services research, health economics, health services administration, biostatistics, health policy, health promotion and disease prevention, behavioral science and health education, and medical informatics. With the active support of faculty mentors, fellows design, perform, and present an independent research project in their area of interest.
