Dr. Maya Hogg

The Weill Department of Medicine (WDOM) is pleased to announce Dr. Maya Hogg was recently appointed Chief of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital (NYP-LMH) and Vice Chair in the Weill Department of Medicine, effective Oct. 1, 2023. Dr. Hogg succeeds Dr. Renuka Gupta, who served in the role from July 2020 to Aug. 2023. Dr. Gupta continues to serve as an adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. We express our sincerest appreciation to Dr. Gupta for her outstanding service.

Dr. Hogg joined the Weill Department of Medicine in 2017 as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the division of General Internal Medicine, serving as a hospitalist at both NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital. In 2019, she began a succession of leadership roles at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, serving as Co-Site Chief and most recently Site Chief of Hospital Medicine

In her position as Site Chief, Dr. Hogg led various quality improvement initiatives, such as reducing 30-day readmission rates. She also designed and implemented NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital’s Medicine-Surgery Co-Management Service, improving communication and operational efficiencies between the hospital’s Medicine and Surgery teams. She also worked with Dr. Gupta to initiate NYP-LMH’s Women in Healthcare event series.

In addition, Dr. Hogg has taken on leadership roles in numerous interdisciplinary committees, including the Quality and Patient Safety committee and Patient Flow Committee, and assisted in the recruitment and selection of two additional assistant site chiefs, expanding NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital’s leadership team.

“Dr. Hogg is an outstanding physician and a dedicated leader in her field,” said Dr. John Leonard, interim chair of the Weill Department of Medicine and interim physician-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. “She is an ideal choice for the chief of medicine position as we continue to drive excellence and innovation in the delivery of care to serve the Lower Manhattan patient community and beyond.”

An integral part of Dr. Hogg’s roles as clinician and educator is her unwavering commitment to health equity. She served as a subcommittee member of WDOM’s Racial Justice and Equity Taskforce, which provided formal recommendations to improve diversity and equity in hiring, promotion, and staff retention.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Hogg assume the role of Chief of Medicine at NYP-LMH,” said Dr. Marie-Laure Romney, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital. “Dr. Hogg is already an invaluable member of our leadership team. We look forward to partnering with her in this expanded role as we work to continue driving excellence in care delivery for our patients.”

Dr. Hogg's goals in her new position include advancing NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital Internal Medicine by growing patients' access to high-quality academic internists and specialists, developing faculty, and focusing on provider wellness and retention.

“I’m excited and honored to take on these new roles,” Dr. Hogg said. “NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital is a unique hospital with world-class internists and specialists focused on providing excellent, individualized care to patients. It has always embraced community spirit, innovation and collaboration. I look forward to continuing to foster those values to keep the hospital at the forefront of medical health care.”
