Dr. R.A. Rees Pritchett

The Weill Department of Medicine has lost an extraordinarily talented, distinguished, and dedicated member of its staff with the recent passing of Dr. Rees Pritchett. Dr. Pritchett, who died on March 27, 2017, had provided nearly seven decades of tireless service to our Department and to Weill Cornell Medicine. A premier physician, educator, administrator, and fundraiser, Dr. Pritchett’s efforts were pivotal in establishing numerous educational and research missions within our department spanning many years. An academic scholar in medicine of the highest caliber, his door was always open and he became one of the most beloved physicians to have served at NYPH/Weill Cornell. Dr. Pritchett’s scholarship, service, courteous demeanor, and great sense of humor were legendary. He will be remembered fondly for many years to come.

Dr. Pritchett obtained his M.D. from the Weill Cornell Medical College and served his residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. The Louis and Gertrude Feil Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Weill Department of Medicine, Dr. Pritchett received many honors throughout his career, including the prestigious Maurice R. Greenberg Distinguished Service Award (1998).

The Weill Department of Medicine extends its deepest sympathies to the Pritchett family. The department will hold a memorial service for Dr. Pritchett, which is planned for May.
