EXCEL (Excellence through Coaching, Evaluation, and Learning) Program is a longitudinal, peer-coaching initiative designed to support Weill Cornell Medicine faculty in their ongoing development toward clinical, teaching, and leadership excellence.
Through individualized coaching with Master Coach–trained faculty over 6–12 months, participants engage in deliberate practice, reflective learning, and targeted skill-building to deliver outstanding clinical care, teaching, inter-professional collaboration and team leadership.
EXCEL reflects the work and mission of the Division of General Internal Medicine – Hospital Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine through its commitment to lifelong learning, continuous growth and a culture of high‑performance coaching that cultivates expertise.
Program Objectives
- Enhance Clinical and Teaching skills: Help physicians strategize ways to grow their clinical knowledge or skills, documentation, workflows, and skills as educators teaching learners.
- Bolster Leadership Skills and Professionalism: Support physicians as team leaders, honing skills in effective communication, negotiation, conflict management, and team engagement.
- Foster Professional Growth: Encourage physicians to engage in self-reflection, discuss feedback, and develop strategies to drive continuous improvement.
- Support Retention: Help physicians successfully meet performance expectations and goals, to thrive in their roles, avoiding formal disciplinary action or termination.
Eligibility
Faculty referred to the Office of Professionalism who have a clinical or professional performance gap which has been identified by supervisors, peers, interprofessional team members, trainees, patients, or the individual faculty member.
