EXCEL (Excellence through Coaching, Evaluation, and Learning) Program is a longitudinal, peer-coaching initiative designed to support Weill Cornell Medicine faculty in their ongoing development toward clinical, teaching, and leadership excellence.
Through individualized coaching with Master Coach–trained faculty over 6–12 months, participants engage in deliberate practice, reflective learning, and targeted skill-building to deliver outstanding clinical care, teaching, inter-professional collaboration, and team leadership.
EXCEL reflects WCM Hospital Medicine's commitment to lifelong learning, continuous growth, and a culture of high-performance coaching to cultivate expertise.
In this program, participants will:
Before First Housestaff Rotation (September):
- Meet with EXCEL Coach to get to know each other, reflect on your strengths and opportunities for growth, and set goals for the rotation.
- Review your housestaff team expectations document that you created.
- Coordinate two EXCEL Coaching sessions where your coach can observe you for 30–60 minutes on morning rounds.
- Meet in the office 15 minutes prior to rounds and then again in the afternoon for 30 minutes of coaching.
From September–March:
- Meet with EXCEL Coach to review feedback from PAs and colleagues and create goals around interprofessional collaboration and clinical care.
