The Weill Department of Medicine is home to a wide array of diversity initiatives for medical students. One of these initiatives is our annual event, "Making Your Match". The Center for Multicultural and Minority Health and the Minority Housestaff Committee host this exciting event where students meet and interact with minority residents, faculty, program directors, and Weill Department of Medicine leadership. Students are involved in workshops followed by a reception. Topics include: how to choose and apply for residency, the residency interview process, and navigating an academic career. This event is part of an ever-growing effort to create "pipeline" opportunities for minority students to help support them in the field of internal medicine.
Students come from all over the tri-state area to attend the "Making Your Match" workshop, which provides valuable information on how to get into residency. Attendees have the opportunity to meet our interns, current and past residents, and the program leadership. There is also an opportunity for attendees to participate in mock interviews.
Here is what some of the attendees had to say about their experience last year:
- "I really appreciated the useful information. I felt extremely welcomed."
- "This was an excellent event to understand opportunities available at Weill Cornell Medicine."
- "It was great to personally talk to faculty and house staff about what we should expect when applying to residency."
