The Weill Department of Medicine’s (WDOM) Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee (QIPS) was formed in 2010 with representatives from each of the major clinical divisions, housestaff, and nursing and care coordination. Under the leadership of the Vice Chair for Quality and Patient Safety, the committee meets monthly with the goal of promoting scholarly achievements in QI by working proactively to provide high value, high quality care to our patients.
Committee representatives are tasked with bridging the gaps between the quality improvement activities of NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) and the WDOM with that of their division by providing regular updates to their divisions about pertinent issues. The expectation is for QIPS representatives to become the quality and patient safety champions and experts for their divisions and the WDOM.
Working together with the WDOM Quality Assurance Committee and the NYP Division of Quality, as well as the Physician Organization’s Division of QPS, the committee’s focus is on improving the delivery of care in a multidisciplinary effort across the department, and aligning the quality improvement and patient safety goals with those of WCM, NYP, and national agencies such as Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and National Quality Forum (NQF).
