Dr. Calfee Wins Coveted Physician of the Year Award

Dr. David P. Calfee, Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, has been honored with the 2019 Physician of the Year Award. This award is bestowed by the Department of Nursing at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell in recognition of physicians who consistently practice with nursing and support staff in a collaborative, collegial, and respectful manner. As noted by the nursing department, these qualities have a positive impact upon patient outcomes and patient-centered care. Nominees for the award are identified by their nurse colleagues and supported by letters from other professional staff.

Dr. Calfee, who joined the Division of Infectious Diseases in 2010, is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in hospital epidemiology and infection control. He continues to employ day-to-day strategies to decrease hospital-acquired infections and he played a key role in leading efforts in response to the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa. Dr. Calfee serves as Chief Hospital Epidemiologist, NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, and as the Deputy Medical Director of the Department of Infection Prevention and Control at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
