Long-time benefactors of Weill Cornell Medicine, Jeanne and Overseer Herb Siegel, have endowed a new prize, the Neal Flomenbaum, M.D. Prize for Excellence in Emergency Medicine, to support Weill Cornell faculty engaged in clinical care. Mr. Siegel established the prize to recognize the commitment and hard work of physicians in emergency medicine who are on the frontlines of care, and Dr. Flomenbaum as "a great example of the type of physician who we want to honor with this prize." The $50,000 annual prize will be awarded to faculty members who have shown dedication and innovation in the practice of emergency medicine, education, and research.

The inaugural recipient of the Neal Flomenbaum, M.D. Prize for Excellence in Emergency Medicine, awarded at the Weill Cornell Commencement this past May, was Dr. Rama Rao, Assistant Professor of Medicine and expert in both emergency medicine and toxicology. "This prize makes a strong statement about the importance of providing excellent clinical care while teaching future Weill Cornell physicians how to do so" said Dr. Neal Flomenbaum, Professor of Clinical Medicine, Emergency Physician-in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Division Chief of Emergency Medicine in the Weill Department of Medicine, and Medical Director of NYP*EMS. He added that "Dr. Rao exemplifies the talent, compassion, and commitment to patient care that characterizes the Weill Cornell Department of Medicine faculty.
