The WDOM Welcomes Dr. Louis (Lou) Bridges, Jr. as Chief of the Division of Rheumatology

The Weill Department of Medicine is pleased to welcome Louis (Lou) Bridges, Jr., M.D., Ph.D., as our new Chief of the Division of Rheumatology effective September 1, 2020. Dr. Bridges is the newly appointed Physician-in-Chief and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the Hospital of Special Surgery (HSS). An internationally recognized clinician-scientist known for his work in the areas of arthritis, rheumatology and immunology, Dr. Bridges’ work has advanced health disparities in rheumatology patient care. Recruited from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Dr. Bridges holds a B.S. from the University of Notre Dame, an M.D. from Louisiana State University School of Medicine, and a Ph.D. from UAB. He has been named to the U.S. News & World Report Best Doctors in America list yearly since 2003; serves as President of the Rheumatology Research Foundation; and is a Member of the Executive Committee of the American College of Rheumatology.

Dr. Bridges succeeds Mary K. Crow, M.D., who will continue her work at HSS as the holder of the Benjamin M. Rosen Chair in Immunology and Inflammation Research and as co-Director of the Mary Kirkland Center for Lupus Research. The WDOM thanks Dr. Crow for her many years of outstanding service as Chief of the Division of Rheumatology.
