Our Weill Cornell Internal Medicine Associates (WCIMA) practice is the primary site for ambulatory education in General Internal Medicine for the Internal Medicine Residency training program. Through an integrated system of supervised primary care experience at WCIMA, residents are exposed to the primary problems in ambulatory care Internal Medicine. WCIMA provides a formal didactic curriculum to complement the direct patient experience at our different practice sites. In addition, there are supplementary sessions on psychosocial issues in medical care, quality improvement, clinical controversies, and journal club, as well as Ambulatory Care Morning Report, where cases from the resident and attending practices are discussed.
The Ambulatory Chief Resident was a new role created in 2017 to coordinate and design outpatient primary care educational activities, oversees outpatient resident practices, interfaces between staff and residents at all of our ambulatory sites, and precepts residents in their outpatient primary care rotations. The Ambulatory Chief Resident is an integral member of the Ambulatory Curriculum Committee, the WCIMA Task Force committee devoted to enhancing resident learning culture and patient access, and the Primary Care Intern Recruitment Committee.
The division also provides attending physician supervision for six general medicine inpatient teams (with interns, residents, and medical students) as well as a general medicine consultation service and a medicine-orthopedics co-management service.
Several General Internal Medicine faculty serve as part of the leadership team for the Internal Medicine Residency training program.
