Dr. Choi reviewed topics ranging from H1B visas, travel restrictions and the “dreamers,” to a predicted shortfall of 120,000 physicians in the U.S. by 2030.
The Weill Department of Medicine is delighted to announce that Dr. Nicole Cruz has been named the National Hispanic Medical Association Resident of the Year. This honor will be bestowed at the NHMA National Meeting in Washington, DC in May 2017.
In her new role, Dr. Linnie Golightly will work closely with fellow Associate Dean of Diversity, Dr. Rache M. Simmons, within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. She will be focused on enhancing initiatives to increase underrepresented minority diversity throughout our community. Having a wealth of longstanding experience as a researcher and mentor in her field, Dr. Golightly will help to diversify the biomedical research workforce at Weill Cornell Medicine.
Dr. B. Cameron Webb, who trained in our internal medicine residency program, has been selected for the prestigious honor of a White House Fellowship. Founded in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, the White House Fellows Program offers exceptional Americans first-hand experience working at the highest levels of the federal government.
Dr. Morales joined the Weill Cornell Medicine faculty in 1998 and currently serves as the Associate Director of the Housestaff Training Program in Internal Medicine. She obtained her MD from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the Presbyterian Hospital of the City of New York.
Dr. Michael G. Knight, who trained in internal medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, has been named as one of the '40 Under 40 Leaders in Health' by the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF). The NMQF is an organization dedicated to eliminating health disparities through innovation, collaboration and data-driven initiatives.
Dr. Francine Garrett-Bakelman, an Instructor in Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, was invited by NASA to speak on "Medical Genomics." On February 11, 2016, she delivered a talk at the Universities Space Research Association, Lunar and Planetary Institute, in Houston, Texas, reporting on medical genomic technologies, applications, and their integration into clinical care.
Judy Tung, M.D., will be joining NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital (NYP/LMH) to serve as Chair of the Department of Medicine as of January 2016. A leading expert in internal medicine and primary care, Dr. Tung also specializes in women's health.
This award recognizes one physician annually who provides outstanding leadership and who inspires members of their team to provide excellent, compassionate, and responsible care for patients and their families.
As a featured speaker at the AMEC conference, entitled "Unsilencing the Unheard and the Underserved," Dr. Garrett-Bakelman addressed vital issues concerning SNMA member's education and health disparities. Topics covered included potential paths to be taken to become a physician-scientist; career options post graduate training; and approaches to work-life balance.
