The Second Mark Pecker Clinical Master Visiting Professor: Dr. Daniel Goodenberger

The second Mark Pecker Clinical Master Visiting Professorship was held May 1 through May 5. Dr. Daniel Goodenberger, from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, an expert in pulmonology and internal medicine, was the guest of honor. He attended rounds, morning report, and conferences. A reception was held in Griffis Faculty Club, where he met with colleagues and residents.

Dr. Fins Reveals Deeper Links between Culture and Education

Researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College's two campuses – in New York City and in Doha, Qatar – have collaborated on findings that provide a key insight for medical education across the globe. In the March issue of Academic Medicine, Drs. Joseph J. Fins and Pablo Rodriguez del Pozo borrow a concept from anthropology to demonstrate how "low-context" and "high-context" societies significantly impact how students learn.

Dr. Logio Appointed Siegel Distinguished Professor

The endowed professorship recognizes Dr. Logio's outstanding leadership in medical education and administration, as well as her innovations in education, patient safety and faculty development. Previous to joining Weill Cornell, she served as Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she was also Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.

The Association of Professors of Medicine is the organization of departments of internal medicine represented by chairs and appointed leaders at medical schools and affiliated teaching hospitals in the United States and Canada. It represents the departmental leadership of the 127 accredited medical schools in North America. The organization's mission is "to provide primary leadership and direction to academic internal medicine, including education, research, and patient care."

New Visiting Professorship: The Mark Pecker Clinical Master

Dr. Mark Pecker's former chief residents came together to create a visiting professorship to honor his unique contributions to his trainees and colleagues. The Mark Pecker Clinical Master spends a week with the Department of Medicine and is involved in many clinical activities including morning report, conferences, and rounds. There are also opportunities to interact with staff and residents.

Anne Kastor, M.D., Appointed Director of Weill Cornell Community Clinic

Dr. Anne Kastor
WCCC is a Weill Cornell student initiative operating over the past several years to provide clinical care to patients who are under- or uninsured. WCCC operates out of the Weill Cornell Internal Medicine Associates practice on Monday evenings. It has been a robust student service-learning activity that is sponsored by a faculty steering committee, has worked with local social service programs, and has provided an important service to our local community.

Lia Logio, M.D., Appointed Vice Chair for Education and Residency Program Director

Dr. Lia Logio
Lia Logio, M.D., has been appointed Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Medicine and Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. She currently serves as Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she is also the Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.

ACGME Accredits Residency Program with Commendation

The Department of Medicine was notified on December 5, 2009 by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education that its Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine has given our medicine residency program full accreditation with commendation, and found no citations. This gratifying and unusual decision is a tribute to the hard work of our program directors, faculty, and residents.
