Dr. Dan Landau, Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, WDOM, has been named a 2020 Vallee Scholar. Supported by the Vallee Foundation, Dr. Landau was one of six scientists from around the world to receive this prestigious honor.

It was a highly competitive year for the Vallee Foundation as it selected six scientists to receive the honor of Vallee Scholar. “The awards committee was extremely impressed by the breadth and vision of this year’s candidates and the selection was difficult,” said committee chair Wade Harper, Bert and Natalie Vallee Professor of Molecular Pathology, and Chairman of the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School.

The six awardees were noted for their brilliant ability to bring exciting new technologies to critical problems in human health. Dr. Landau’s research is integrating data science innovation with genomic technology development to unravel the basic principles of tumor cell diversity and evolution. In particular, his studies are furthering the integration of genetic, epigenetic and transcriptional information in the area of somatic evolution, and thus, will leverage gained insights towards therapeutic optimization.

Dr. Landau will receive $300,000 in discretionary funds to be spent over four years for basic biomedical research. “With this generous award, I look forward to furthering advances in technology development to study somatic evolution in humans at the single cell resolution,” says Dr. Landau.
