Dr. Silver Receives Prestigious MPN Heroes Award


A world-renowned authority and longtime champion in the field of Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN), Dr. Richard T. Silver recently received the prestigious MPN Heroes Award at a gala recognition dinner in San Francisco, which was held prior to the 56th American Society of Hematology Meeting and Exposition. The MPN Heroes Award recognized Dr. Silver's remarkable expertise in delivering patient care for MPNs, as well as his commitment to the broader MPN community. Upon receiving the award, Dr. Silver was highlighted in a video appearing on Cure Today.

Dr. Silver has dedicated his efforts for many decades to finding a cure for MPNs and chronic myeloid leukemia, while bringing the best in patient care and scientific advancement to the clinical setting. MPNs are a group of diseases related to the excessive production of bone marrow cells. In tribute to Dr. Silver's distinguished career, patients and colleagues alike helped to establish The Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professor of Hematology/Oncology Chair, and a Visiting Professorship in the Weill Department of Medicine. He was instrumental in founding the MPN Center for Research and Therapy.

Dr. Silver is the Director Emeritus of the Richard T. Silver M.D. Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Center at Weill Cornell and the Medical Director of The Cancer Research and Treatment Fund, Inc. He has written four books and more than 275 peer-reviewed articles, has been the principal investigator of multiple clinical trials, and chaired a bi-annual international congress of the MPNs since 2005 and a congress for MPN patients attended by patients worldwide. He is the co-inventor of the BMB biopsy technique used throughout the world.
