Previous to joining Weill Cornell, she served as Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she was also Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.
Dr. David Calfee serves as the new Chief Hospital Epidemiologist at NYP/Weill Cornell. Dr. Stephen Wilson is a new Hospital Epidemiologist. Thomas Walsh, M.D. is the new Director of the Transplantation-Oncology Infectious Diseases Program.
Mary K. Crow, M.D., has been appointed Chief of the Division of Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine. She has been concurrently appointed Physician-In-Chief and Chair of the Division of Rheumatology at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). Dr. Crow is an internationally recognized investigator and a leader in the field of rheumatology and autoimmunity research and clinical practice.
Lia Logio, M.D., has been appointed Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Medicine and Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. She currently serves as Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she is also the Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.
Dr. Becker was a revered member of the Division of Endocrinology and a nationally and internationally recognized thyroidologist, with particular expertise in thyrotoxicosis and thyroid cancer. Dr. Becker was a pioneer in the use of radioactive isotopes for the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disease.
Shari R. Midoneck, M.D., has been appointed to the position of Associate Dean, Academic Affairs, effective January 1, 2010. Dr. Midoneck is the Ehrenkranz/Orli R. Etingin, M.D., Professor in Women's Health; Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in Women's Health at the Weill Cornell Medical College and an Associate Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
The Department of Medicine was notified on December 5, 2009 by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education that its Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine has given our medicine residency program full accreditation with commendation, and found no citations. This gratifying and unusual decision is a tribute to the hard work of our program directors, faculty, and residents.
On October 12, 2009, the Department of Medicine signed a Letter of Intent to establish a research collaboration with the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University in Suzhou, China. Our institutions agreed to continue to explore research collaborations of mutual interest, initially focusing on basic, translational and clinical cancer and blood diseases research.
