Largest Ever Federal Grant Awarded to Weill Cornell


Dr. Imperato-McGinley Named Principal Investigator and Program Director

A prestigious $49 million Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) has been awarded from the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to Weill Cornell Medical College in support of a new Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC). Dr. Julianne Imperato-McGinley, Chief, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, will serve as the Principal Investigator and Program Director of the new Center. Forging collaborative research studies, with the focus on effective patient treatments and preventative interventions, this new biomedical complex will incorporate a multidisciplinary collaboration among a diverse group of world-class institutions, all located on New York's Upper East Side. In addition to energizing translational research, the Center will serve as a hub to educate the next generation of researchers.

Dr. Imperato joined Weill Cornell as an NIH Research Fellow in Endocrinology and is now a tenured Professor of Medicine and the Abby Rockefeller Mauze Distinguished Professor of Medicine. She will be named the associate dean for translational research and educational training at Weill Cornell. The Program Director of the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC), she holds a 25-year history of NIH funding, garnering national and international recognition for her outstanding research and major contributions to the training of physician-scientists. In 2005, Dr. Imperato received the E.H. Ahrens, Jr. Award for Excellence in Clinical Research and she has authored more than 130 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
