In Memoriam: Dr. Charles "Chuck" Steinberg


The Weill Department of Medicine is saddened to announce the recent loss of Dr. Charles “Chuck” Steinberg. A native of New York City, Dr. Steinberg acquired his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College and completed his residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Known to all as Chuck, Dr. Steinberg’s compassion and dedication to medicine was quickly recognized. After serving as chief medical resident, Dr. Steinberg completed his fellowship in infectious diseases at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

He went on to become one of the Weill Department of Medicine’s most prominent physicians, serving as a beloved clinician, professor, and mentor for more than 50 years. A professor emeritus of clinical medicine, Dr. Steinberg’s legacy is anchored in his profound commitment to medical education and patient care. The Charles R. Steinberg M.D. Clinical Scholar Award (CSA) in Infectious Diseases was established in in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charles R. Steinberg M.D. Scholarship at Weill Cornell Medical College.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, February 11 at 3 p.m. at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave., New York, N.Y.
