On May 23, 2018, the Weill Department of Medicine (WDOM) hosted graduation events for Quality University – WDOM (QUDoM) Class of 2018, beginning with presentations of their quality improvement (QI) research projects at Grand Rounds. The events culminated with an awards presentation at the 5th annual Quality Improvement/Patient Safety (QIPS) poster symposium held in Griffis Faculty Lounge. QUDoM and the QIPS committee are led by Dr. Jennifer I. Lee, Vice Chair for QPS, Dr. Robert J. Kim, and Deanna Jannat-Khah DrPH, MSPH. This year’s class included:
- Dr. Felicia Mendelsohn-Curanaj and Dr. Jane Seley from the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (Project: Standardizing and Streamlining DKA Guidelines In the Weill Cornell Medical ICU & NYP/Lower Manhattan Hospital ICU)
- Dr. George Bao from the Division of General Internal Medicine/Section of Hospital Medicine (Project: Tai Chi for Enhanced Inpatient Mobilization at NYP/Lower Manhattan Hospital)
- Dr. Laura Gingras from the Division of General Internal Medicine/Section of Adult Internal Medicine (Project: Improving Resident Provider-Patient Continuity at WCIMA)
Awards were presented later that evening at the 5th annual QIPS poster symposium, which also showcased 18 QI projects selected during an open call for abstracts earlier this year. Projects were completed across the department by residents, fellows, medical students, faculty, and nursing on the Weill Cornell, NYP/Lower Manhattan, NYP/Queens, and NYP/Methodist campuses.
