Stephen Scheidt, MD, Distinguished Visiting Professorship in the Department of Medicine


We are pleased to announce the Stephen Scheidt, M.D., Distinguished Visiting Professorship in the Department of Medicine, funded by a grant from the New York Cardiology Foundation of New York Cardiology Associates in memory of our esteemed colleague, Dr. Stephen Scheidt.

As a faculty member in the Division of Cardiology for nearly 40 years, Dr. Scheidt is well remembered for his clinical brilliance and for mentoring several generations of house staff and cardiology fellows at Cornell, where he was Director of the Cardiac Telemetry Unit and Program Director of the Cardiology fellowship for 30 years. Since joining the faculty in 1970, Dr. Scheidt was a scholarly presence in Cardiology; he authored over 200 publications and lectured widely. He had numerous roles in the medical college, including Assistant Dean for Continuing Medical Education and Associate Dean for Student Affairs. Up until his passing, he displayed an extraordinary, courageous dedication to his patients and his residents and fellows. He was a great friend, teacher, and role model.

The inaugural Stephen Scheidt, M.D., Distinguished Visiting Professor lecture will take place at Medicine Grand Rounds on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Uris Auditorium. The speaker will be Valentin Fuster, M.D., Ph.D., Director, Mount Sinai Heart; Richard Gorlin, MD, Heart Research Foundation Professor of Cardiology, Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY.
