Dr. Renuka Gupta has been appointed as Chief of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital (NYP/LMH). Dr. Gupta will begin her role in July 2020 and will be succeeding Dr. Judy Tung who had served in this role since 2016. The WDOM expresses its sincerest appreciation to Dr. Tung for her outstanding service and congratulates her on her recent appointment as Associate Dean for Faculty Development at Weill Cornell Medicine and in her continuing role in the Division of General Internal Medicine as Section Chief of Adult Internal Medicine.
Dr. Gupta joined the WDOM in the Division of General Internal Medicine (Hospital Medicine) at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine in 2010. In addition to her roles as a clinician and educator, Dr. Gupta is an expert on hospital operational efficiency, hospital systems, health care policy, and quality improvement. She has played key roles in improving both efficiency and functionality in the hospital as well as reducing average length of stay and two years ago was appointed as the Physician Liaison for Operational Efficiency in Medicine at NYP. She is also a leader in the academic domain of discrimination against physicians. In her role at LMH, Dr. Gupta will oversee and coordinate the outpatient and inpatient activities of WDOM faculty at LMH, serving an important role as liaison for the faculty, Division Chiefs, Chair of Medicine, and Hospital Leadership.
