As part of Weill Cornell’s 3rd Annual Diversity Week (April 26 - May 1, 2021), two members of the WDOM faculty received awards in recognition of their exceptional contributions to diversity at Weill Cornell Medicine: Dr. Erica Phillips and Dr. Margaret McNairy.
Dr. Erica Phillips
Dr. Erica Phillips, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, received the Marie Metoyer, MD Award, which recognizes faculty or alumnus of the medical college who go above and beyond to serve communities despite difficult conditions.
Dr. Margaret McNairy, Associate Professor of Medicine and the Sacerdote Clinical Scholar in Women’s Health, Center for Global Health and Division of General Internal Medicine, received The Jessica M. and Natan Bibliowicz Award for Excellence in Mentoring Women Faculty. This award recognizes outstanding men and women faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine who demonstrate commitment to advancing the academic careers of women in the areas of clinical care, research, or education. The individual must have a track record of providing strong mentorship, as well as fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for all faculty.
Dr. Margaret McNairy
Both of these awards are part of the Dean’s Diversity and Healthcare Disparity Research Awards initiative. The awards represent excellence in research to improve the health of women and underrepresented minorities and/or to reduce health disparities in healthcare systems and in clinical settings, either locally or globally.
Of note, in 2020 Weill Cornell Medicine was again recognized by the higher education community for its efforts on diversity and inclusion, winning the INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award for the third year in row.
Drs. Phillips and McNairy presented posters of their research at the Diversity Awards Ceremony and Reception on April 26.
