The many major advances since Dr. Safford’s arrival to Weill Cornell have included the merging of hospital medicine and ambulatory care; the establishment of NIH-sponsored studies on health disparities; and the PALS.
Dr. Yoon Kang has been promoted from Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum to the newly created position of Associate Dean for Program Development and Operations of Medical Education. Dr. Kang is also the Director of the Margaret and Ian Smith Clinical Skills Center at Weill Cornell Medicine. She has received numerous teaching awards at Weill Cornell.
Dr. Jennifer I. Lee has been appointed to serve as Vice Chair for Quality and Patient Safety in the Weill Department of Medicine. Dr. Lee will continue to foster collaborative efforts to ensure high quality, high value care delivery for patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
Dr. Morales joined the Weill Cornell Medicine faculty in 1998 and currently serves as the Associate Director of the Housestaff Training Program in Internal Medicine. She obtained her MD from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the Presbyterian Hospital of the City of New York.
This award recognizes Dr. Fein's lifetime of achievement as an advocate for health reform and greater community access.
Judy Tung, M.D., will be joining NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital (NYP/LMH) to serve as Chair of the Department of Medicine as of January 2016. A leading expert in internal medicine and primary care, Dr. Tung also specializes in women's health.
Recruited from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine (UAB), Dr. Safford is a leading scholar in the field of internal medicine.
Established in 1995, the David E. Rogers Memorial Research Award encourages medical residents to continue their investigative research in internal medicine. Each year, senior medical residents submit research abstracts, and four finalists are chosen to present their work during medical grand rounds.
Dr. Morales is widely known for her superb patient care, academic scholarship, devotion to teaching, and pioneering work in health disparities. An exemplary role model for young physicians and investigators in training, the SGIM will celebrate her "extraordinary service to the SGIM and its missions" at their awards meeting held in April 2015.
