The Weill Department of Medicine is focused on increasing its research footprint both at Weill Cornell and on a national level. To that end, the department has established a mentoring infrastructure to assist junior faculty during their transition to NIH K and R series grants. Dr. Holly Andersen, of the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, has been appointed Director of Education and Outreach at the new Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The newly created position underscores the Institute's strong commitment to raising awareness about the risks of heart disease.
Craig T. Basson, M.D. has been appointed as the Gladys and Roland Harriman Professor of Medicine, effective November 1, 2008. His selection for this endowed professorship is in recognition of his leadership and international reputation as a physician-scientist in the field of human cardiovascular genetics disease.
