Dr. Patterson Receives 2015 Distinguished Scientist Award from the ACC

The award, which recognizes major contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge, was presented to Dr. Patterson at the College's 64th Annual Scientific Session. Dr. Patterson, a Professor of Medicine in the Weill Department of Medicine (WDOM), is the newly recruited Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

The Weill Department of Medicine is focused on increasing its research footprint both at Weill Cornell and on a national level. To that end, the department has established a mentoring infrastructure to assist junior faculty during their transition to NIH K and R series grants. This infrastructure supports a monthly meeting that seeks to build, promote, and mentor the department's junior faculty.

Division of Cardiology Begins Investigator-Initiated Multicenter Study to Study Cardiac Device

Department Physicians Elected to Institute of Medicine

David J. Skorton, M.D., President of Cornell University and a member of the Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, and Joseph J. Fins, M.D., Chief of Weill Cornell's Division of Medical Ethics and an Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine.

Dr. Holly Andersen to Lead Education and Outreach at Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute

Dr. Holly Andersen, of the Division of Cardiology in the Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, has been appointed Director of Education and Outreach at the new Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. The newly created position underscores the Institute's strong commitment to raising awareness about the risks of heart disease.

Dr. Basson Appointed Gladys and Roland Harriman Professor of Medicine

Craig T. Basson, M.D. has been appointed as the Gladys and Roland Harriman Professor of Medicine, effective November 1, 2008. His selection for this endowed professorship is in recognition of his leadership and international reputation as a physician-scientist in the field of human cardiovascular genetics disease.
